Energy therapy is used to help balance the systems of energy throughout the body to alleviate stress, ailments, and disease. There are a variety of different approaches through different traditions. Essentially, when one feels unbalanced either physically, emotionally, or mentally, energy therapy aids to restore and realign the body's subtle vibrations. Reiki is one of the main ways to practice energy therapy. However, there are many ways to integrate energy therapy and healing into one’s life.
HOW IT WORKS
In A Nutshell
Energy is described in Western culture as vigor, life, spirit, passion, power, and electromagnetism. The Hindus call vital energy prana. The Hebrew name for "vital energy" is ruah. The Chinese define energy as life force, or chi. In Japan, it is Reiki. It is this non-physical energy that creates and maintains a balanced and healthy body, spirit, and world. When the energy is blocked, there is an imbalance that often creates disease.
The ability to heal is as natural as the ability to breathe, and through energy therapy, the practitioner essentially guides each person to bring healing and balance back into their awareness. The practitioner works with seven of the main energy systems in the body, called Chakras. These wheels of energy start at the crown of the head and move down the spine, all the way to the feet. When there is an imbalance in these energy centers, or blockages, there is a disruption in the natural flow of energy in our bodies, which can cause an imbalance in the body and mind.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In a typical session, you will work with your practitioner on specific areas you may have issues with. The practitioner may use a variety of tools such as sage, sound, pendulums, crystals, essential oils, etc. to guide the energies of your body to flow freely and in the correct directions. We use a collection of different treatment modalities (e.g., Reiki, bioenergy therapy, Pranic Healing, Eden’s Method, Golden Light, Emotional Freedom Therapy, etc.) to build a treatment program specific to you individualized needs. A session may be done while you are standing up, sitting in a chair, or laying down. The practitioner will channel the energy through their body into specific areas you may need. The practitioner is simply a guide for the energies, not the creator of energy being supplied to you. They may hoover their hands over you or if needed, and with your permission, may place their hands directly on certain areas in pain. All precautions are made as we are aware of trauma and how touch can trigger negative responses. The only thing you, as the client, will need to do during a session is relax and be open to receiving the energy.
An average session takes about 60 minutes. If needed, 30-minute sessions are available. Some people find complete relief in only one session. Others may need to schedule several sessions. This depends on many different factors such as the client’s openness for therapy, the condition being treated, and severity of the ailment.
It is recommended to wear relaxed loose-fitting clothes to your session as tighter clothing may restrict the flow of your energy. Prior to your session, please drink plenty of water. Water is a conductor of energy and staying hydrated will improve the flow of energy throughout your body. It is vital that you continue to drink water after the session so the healing can continue once the session is finished.
During a session, a client might experience warmth or cooling sensations in areas of their body that is being worked on. They can even have other sensory experiences such as seeing colors, feeling tingling in their limbs, or have a sense of watching a story in their mind unfold. Some people may not experience anything but relaxation. After a session, you may feel more awake, alert, or even more rested. You may continue to feel subtle changes in your body for several days following a session.
